7:00 Welcome: Alec Buchness

7:15 Officer’s Update

Holly Parker, Surfrider State Coordinator is rRecruiting another coordinator for S. Florida

New Initiative:

Florida Institute of Technology

Marine Science and Coastal Engineering Summer Camp

One-week camp, 40 campers segregated by age

Activities

Large varieties of activities

Ages 10 – 18

Combination of science and engineering

Significant number of return students

$600 per week, $1,000 if students RON

Alec Buchness (Chairperson) motioed to fund two campers, one full time and one daytime only attendee.  The full time camper will be an underprivileged youth and the day camper will be the child of a current Surfrider Foundation member for a total commitment of $1,600.  The camp facilitators will make the selection. The motion passed.

7:45 Aquarina Beach Cleanup

7:50 Ocean Friendly Restaurant (Shannon)

Four criteria, outlined in flyer

Platinum members receive decals as well as mention on the SRF website

Members encouraged to recruit local restaurants to join

8:00 Ocean Reef Beach Festival

Scheduled for December 2, 2017

Intracoastal Brewing Company supporting

Conservation focused vendors / organizations

Two music stages

Need member volunteers to supervise parking and to man booth

8:15 Anti-off-shore oil drilling campaign

National Surfrider focus

Cutouts available at ORB for background photographs

Scale model oil rig on display for signature

8:20 Membership Drive

November & December

Invite friends and family to join

Gift memberships available on website

Cash prizes for chapters who recruit significant numbers of new members

8: 30 New Business

First Peak Project

Having difficulty getting support from local surf community

Will continue soliciting behind the scenes support

Another push for public support to begin around Memorial Day
