Treasurer Eric Schwarz: Mel Beach Rotary Club raised $2,500 for the chapter at their Southern Squall Event. Captain Hiram’s has recently pledged a donation to the chapter.
Ocean Friendly Restaurants, Shannon Schneyder reported that the Nomad Cafe’s owner has expressed interest in becoming an Ocean Friendly Restaurant; however, she has expressed concern with the recycling requirement to include the actual disposition of collected recyclables.
Ocean Friendly Gardens, Bill DeLuccia briefed the results of the recent Satellite Beach Ocean Friendly Gardens event where he provided a group briefing as well as individualized advice to attendees. Four individuals joined our chapter at this event.
7:30 Events Update.
Chapter social next Thursday at 6:00pm at Hell’n Blazes. “Missing” a surf themed movie will be shown.
Fundraising event at Ashley’s Sport’s Page in Sat. Beach. Sat. March 31st at 8:30 pm. The reggae band Dub 321 will be playing for the event. Table and membership presence needed.
‘Eats & Beats at the Beach’ on Fri. April 6th 5 – 10 pm. Sustainable event to benefit SRF at Nance Park, Indialantic. Tent set up and volunteers needed (Hawaiian shirts required!). We will be handing out reusable cloth bags for people who take the no plastic bag pledge.
Single Use Plastics meeting on April 11th at 2401 N. Harbor City Blvd.
Sound Waves Music Festival on April 14 at FIT’s Sound Waves Music Festival @ IntraCoastal. Need to staff the tent and promote. Details to follow.
Earth Day Exhibit with Re-Think Energy Brevard at Northrup Grumman on April, 17 from 10 am – 2 pm.
Earth Day Beach Cleanup on April 21st at Ponce de Leon Park(?) organized by Vince Lamb.
Sat. May 19th Local Beer, Boards & Bands Fest: 1 – 9 pm. Orlando is leading this event. He’ll update everyone.
Hands Across the Sands Demonstration denouncing offshore oil drilling on May 19th at Noon. Location TBD.
7:40 MidReach and “Emergency” Dune Replenishment updates by Roger Ross and Courtney Barker, Satellite Beach City Manager.
- Emergency dune replenishment underway vic Satellite Beach. Some poor quality sand was identified and the providing quarry is no longer being used.
- Courtney Barker summarized SB’s proposed City Resolution 1000 and discussed the challenges that municipal governments face regulating beachfront development. We will post the resolution once we receive an updated version.
- Chair, Alec Buchness read the Surfrider Foundation’s Letter of Support for the SB resolution. We will publish the letter along with the updated version of the resolution.
